Frequently Asked
Questions
Therapy is a deeply collaborative process and individual outcomes will vary based on unique life circumstances. Meaningful progress depends on multiple factors, including your specific goals, therapeutic readiness and active engagement over time. Therapy is not a quick fix; it is an intentional, evidence-based space designed to build sustainable insight and coping strategies at a pace that respects your nervous system.
Support from trusted family members and friends is incredibly beautiful and serves as an important pillar of emotional well-being. These personal relationships offer vital community connection and comfort.
Psychotherapy, however, provides a strictly confidential, objective and professionally structured space. It focuses entirely on your growth, exploring deep-rooted behavioral patterns, cognitive loops and emotional processing through training, specialized modalities and ethical standards. Both forms of support are incredibly valuable and can complement one another beautifully.
The initial consultation is a comprehensive intake assessment where we explore your primary concerns, relevant background history and therapy goals. This helps us establish a collaborative direction for our work together.
Following the first one to two sessions, we will mindfully reflect on whether our therapeutic dynamic feels like a productive fit for your needs. If it is determined that a different specialist or a higher level of care would better serve you, appropriate referrals will be warmly provided. Please note that you always retain the right to conclude therapy at any time.
To build momentum, emotional safety and depth, weekly sessions are generally recommended at the start of therapy. As you begin to integrate new insights, build coping capacity and experience stability, sessions are typically spaced out to bi-weekly or adjusted according to your unique progress and life circumstances.
Every individual's emotional processing is different. It is entirely normal to feel a sense of relief, clarity or groundedness; it is equally normal to feel temporary emotional vulnerability or fatigue following deep reflection. Therapy focuses on steady, incremental growth rather than immediate or fixed outcomes.

We do not offer direct insurance billing. We strongly encourage you to verify your specific "Social Work Psychotherapy" coverage with your insurer prior to your first session.
When a session is reserved for you, that hour is set aside exclusively for your care. We require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for all cancellations or rescheduling requests. Late cancellations or missed appointments without the required notice will be subject to the full session fee.
Requests for administrative letters, academic accommodation support or attendance confirmations are evaluated strictly on a case-by-case basis. To preserve accuracy, objectivity and professional integrity, a period of sustained, ongoing therapeutic engagement (typically a minimum of 10 sessions) is generally required before comprehensive documentation can be provided. Brief, basic attendance confirmations may be issued earlier at the therapist's professional discretion. Additional administrative fees apply based on the complexity of the documentation requested.
No. To preserve the safety, confidentiality and therapeutic integrity of our relationship, this practice does not provide reports, legal letters, affidavits or documentation for court proceedings, custody disputes or insurance litigations.
The sole exception is the standard letter of support provided to IFHP clients upon the completion of 10 therapeutic sessions. Furthermore, this practice does not complete WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) forms or related occupational adjudication documentation. These boundaries prevent dual-role conflicts and ensure your therapy room remains an entirely safe space separate from legal proceedings.
All personal and health information shared within your sessions is held in the strictest confidence. In accordance with OCSWSSW ethical guidelines the rare exceptions to confidentiality include:
- Clear and imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or an identifiable other.
- Reasonable suspicion of abuse, neglect or harm involving a child under the age of 16 or a vulnerable adult.
- A formal court order, subpoena or legal mandate issued by a judge.
To protect your absolute privacy, safety and integrity of our work together:
If we happen to cross paths in public, I will not initiate contact or acknowledge you to protect your privacy and ensure your therapy remains confidential.
In accordance with professional standards, social media friend or connection requests from current or former clients cannot be accepted on personal profiles.
Supervision may occur as part of ethical practice and quality care; identifying information is omitted.
To maintain clear, ethical therapeutic boundaries, gifts from clients are respectfully declined.
To avoid dual relationships and protect client well-being, therapeutic services cannot be offered through this private practice if the clinic founder has previously provided or is currently providing your care within an affiliated hospital or public institutional setting.
Providing safe, ethical and highly responsible care means recognizing when a client’s specific needs require a specialized, multidisciplinary or higher tier of psychiatric support. Services are offered strictly within the therapist's boundaries of training and competence.
